Bio/Artist Statement:
My last name is pronounced Lock-ridge…since it’s always mispronounced and since I work with nuts, bolts, screws and lockwashers…Lockwasher seemed the natural choice. I was born a raised in Northern California. I currently live in Morgan Hill, sandwiched between San Jose’s Silicon Valley to the north and the ever-fragrant Gilroy (Garlic Capitol of the world) to the south. I’ve worked as a Graphic Designer, Trade Show Manager/Event coordinator for the last 30+ years for HP, IBM, Specialized Bicycle, Compaq Computer to name a few. I have been at this sculpture thing for 2 years. I like to work with found objects – specifically, retired old metal stuff.

Using simple metal working tools (drill press, wire wheel, grinder, belt sander, hammer and vice) I shape what most people would consider junk into one-of-a-kind assemblage sculptures. I frequent flea markets and garage sales in search of "treasures" such as door knobs, old car parts, coffee urns, vintage typewriters, vegetable graters, ice buckets, espresso makers, retired electrical appliances etc. Once everything has been disassembled and cleaned the real fun begins. I find the process of transforming these cold, metal parts into playful art pieces thoroughly enjoyable. Somewhere during this creative journey each sculpture establishes it’s own unique personality. All of my pieces are carefully assembled using nuts/bolts, pop rivets and threaded rod…no welding. I firmly believe that recycling is everyone’s responsibility and by salvaging and reengineering these vintage and "found" objects I’m doing what I can.
